Photographs of the Scott Monument, Edinburgh.

The Scott Monument, designed by architect George Kemp, was erected between 1840 and 1844. Its Gothic cathedral-like presence dominates Princes Street. There is a statue of Scott himself and his dog, Maida beneath the canopy, along with 64 statuettes of characters from his books.

You can climb all 287 steps (over 200ft) to see stunning views of the city and beyond.
