The beauty of Brunelleschi´s dome is visible from the moment you leave the railway station - it dominates the city skyline with an imposing yet graceful presence. The richly ornamental facades of the Duomo never fail to impress, and it is one of the richest examples of Gothic architecture in Italy.
The adjacent bell-tower, begun by Giotto in 1334, rises to 85 metres high and a climb up its 414 steps is rewarded with some splendid views.
